The 7 Habits of highly effective people.
Having been a Taxi driver for nearly 20 years I thought it would be great to set up my own company.
As I had always dressed smart and drove a Mercedes, I thought why not set up a Chauffeur company.
Although I new nothing about the business World, or indeed what skills I needed to be successful, my Mother, who always thought I had great potential, well Mothers do don’t they, suggested reading the 7 habits of highly effective people.
Well that was that, I got this book, on audio CD, all 13 discs, and listened to it all the way through 5 times, well that is what the Author suggested.
Who would have thought I could make it, well apart from my Mother? I did make it, was it easy, no it was not, but the harder I worked the more luck I got.

Seek First to Understand, and Then Be Understood
Sharpen the Saw
Armed with the above, I created & implemented our mission statements which still stand to this day.
The only addition since the below is our new ‘When Safe Travel Matters’ policy.
Company mission statement
Our reputation as a trustworthy business partner is critical to our business success.
Honesty, professionalism, ethical behaviour, and integrity with our staff and clients. Our reputation with them is paramount to our success.
Our business goals are only met when mutually we make our clients successful and we are fairly rewarded.
By getting all these right, quality, service, and corporate safety, we serve our clients’ needs successfully.
Personal Mission Statement
Succeed at home first.
Seek and merit help.
Never compromise with honesty.
Remember the people involved.
Hear both sides before judging.
Obtain council of others.
Defend those who are absent.
Be sincere, yet decisive.
Develop 1 new proficiency a year.
Plan tomorrows work today.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Keep a sense of humour.
Be orderly in person and in work.
Do not fear mistakes, fear only the absence of creative, constructive & corrective responses to those mistakes.
Facilitate the success of subordinates.
Listen twice as much as I speak.
Concentrate all abilities & efforts on the task at hand.
Be a concerned & involved citizen, especially in the Borough I live and work, through my role as chair of ‘RRR’.
Ensure that my voice is heard & my vote is counted.
My wants will be subject to my needs & my means.
